Connecticut Whale "Whale TV" Television Broadcasts on WCCT-TV

Whalers Sports & Entertainment and Comcast today announced the launch of “Whale TV” on Xfinity On Demand, which will be available at no additional cost to Comcast digital cable customers throughout New England. The content will be accessible beginning December 26 under the “Get Local” section of Comcast’s signature Xfinity On Demand service.

Through the “Whale TV” Xfinity On Demand offering, Xfinity TV customers will be able to access a wide variety of exclusive and regularly updated Connecticut Whale features, including a weekly “Whale Watch” TV show with game highlights, interviews and other feature material.  Additionally, Comcast Xfinity TV customers will be able to enjoy “CT Whale All Access,” a behind-the-scenes look at life in the AHL.  There will also be an option to view various CT Whale special events throughout the season.

 

Whale TV and CPTV PARTNERSHIP INCLUDES 18 CT WHALE RE-BROADCASTS

HARTFORD, November 29, 2011:  Whalers Sports & Entertainment (WSE) announced today the launch of a partnership with CPTV Sports that will see 18 Connecticut Whale games this season carried on the 24/7 public TV sports network.

The games will air on a tape-delayed basis, with a “CT Whale Game of the Week” showing every Tuesday night, selected from the previous week’s action and edited down to 90 minutes.  Airing times of the games may vary;  viewers should check with CTWhale.com for exact airing times.

CPTV Sports, formerly the Connecticut Sports Network (CTSN), is Connecticut’s only 24-hour local sports network, covering statewide high school sports, college match-ups, professional sports competitions and more.

Launched on November 1, CPTV Sports is available on Comcast cable channels 185, 187 and 744 and on the Cox Communications cable system channel 144.

Combined with the “Whale TV” package of five live telecasts on WCCT-TV, this CPTV Sports schedule brings the total number of Whale telecast exposures for the 2011-12 season to 23.  In addition, CPTV will air a classic Whalers WHA game and the 2011 “Whale Bowl.”

HARTFORD — “This year, we have no excuses.”

That’s how Mark Willand, senior vice president of operations for the Connecticut Whale, views the American Hockey League franchise’s prospects for the 2011-12 season off the ice.

The Howard Baldwin father-son partnership has had control of the Whale’s business side for a full year now, and the organization is brimming with optimism that attendance and interest will take a great leap forward this season, starting with the home opener against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the XL Center on Saturday night. Season-ticket sales have tripled and corporate sponsorships are on the rise, the team says.

Hockey Hall of Fame ‘09

 

On February 19, 2011, a record 21,673 fans braved the bone-chilling cold to witness the most significant hockey event in Connecticut history – an outdoor pro hockey spectacular at Rentschler Field, the home of the UConn Huskies.

The main event featured an exciting AHL match-up between the newly-rebranded Connecticut Whale and their arch-rivals, the Providence Bruins. A wild regulation culminated in a shootout, a fitting end to the most monumental outdoor hockey event in Connecticut history.

The opening event featured a nostalgic tilt between Boston Bruins and Hartford Whalers alumni teams, as well as celebrities and the famous Hanson Brothers from “Slap Shot”.

More than hockey…this is history!

This limited edition commemorative DVD contains edited versions of both games plus special interviews with Whalers players and more!

Lauren Willand Leads Holy Name To Summer League Crown

SHREWSBURY —  Four months from now, the basketball action will bounce inside on the hardwood floors. But high-level hoop intensity and competitiveness still surfaced last night on the asphalt courts at Shrewsbury High.

Under a beautiful summer sky, Holy Name held Shepherd Hill scoreless over the final eight minutes and defeated the Rams, 30-27, to claim the Shrewsbury Girls' Summer League Largess Division Championship.

The Naps, who won their eighth game of the summer, were led by Lauren Willand and Ama Biney, both with seven points. Five-foot-11 senior Bianca Langford and 5-2 sophomore Ariana Perez each scored five.
